We moved to Mexico just in time for Semana Santa - holy week. Too new to really know the culture and timing of festivals in San Miguel, we went into downtown one afternoon and came upon the Catholic parade that mimics the deliverance of Jesus to the Romans for crucifixion.
The crowd moved quietly and sorrowfully through the streets, carrying images of the Blessed Virgin, Jesus, and St. John. We followed them to the Oratorio, one of the famous churches in San Miguel. The processional was moving, as was the atmosphere at the church. Women in black dresses and mourning veils wept as the statues were brought into the church.
It was intensely moving.
