Ruins and Wildflowers

I took a road trip by myself for my birthday. My destination of choice was Atontonilco, an old indigenous religious site. There are a number of hot springs here that the local Chichimeca tribes used in fertility rituals. The conquering Spaniards, Catholic to the core, tried to stop these rituals by claiming that Jesus had appeared and commanded the local priest to build a sanctuary on top of the springs. Unsurprisingly, the church and religious complex was built, but the humid thermal waters constantly undermines the integrity of the buildings.
