Petroglyphs
These petroglyphs were left by the Sinagua peoples. They are, in part, kind of a calendar. You can see the symbols for the Solstices and Equinoxes (concentric circles in different patterns), symbols that indicate seasons (ladder patterns), as well as symbols for animals and activities. There are also rocks wedged into this cliff that were strategically placed to cast shadows on different parts of the petroglyphs at different times of the year. Kind of a larger than life Farmer's Almanac.
The rocks in the cracks were driven there on purpose to create shadows at certain times of the year. The two V-shaped rocks at the top create not just shadows, but make a triangular band of light to highlight strategic parts of the petroglyph in order to tell a story or give instruction.
