Calavera is the Spanish word for skull. Sometimes only half of the face is painted to show the dual nature of humanity. Sometimes the whole face is painted in a skull representation. Around Día de Muertos, the day of the dead, people often paint their faces or go to someone like this and have them done professionally, in celebration of the holiday.
