Day 10

Updated: Oct 16, 2022

CRABBY

I suppose I'm a chronic anthropomorphist. I see faces everywhere, especially in the grills of cars. Some look happy, some look like they are day dreaming, some look bummed, some are bored. And then there's the 1961 Plymouth Fury. Except I never thought they looked furious: more like it was in a really bad mood. Like perhaps it had PMS.

You know. . . crabby.

I'm not in love with my crosshatching. But hey, it's a learning curve. And really, I have a three-fold reason for doing Inktober this year:

  1. To get better. I want to get better using ink brush pens and using inking techniques (like shading), so I'm using them for this 31-day Inktober challenge.

  2. To work on discipline and consistency. It's a big area of challenge for me. And when you learn a skill like discipline or being consistent in one area you can transfer that to another area. So yeah. That.

  3. To finish! It's not like I'm looking forward to the end. It's not like that. As a matter of fact, I'm already planning a 100 day challenge after this one ends. No, this is about completing what I start. You know that's the big deal about college, right? You learn just enough to not-suck, but you don't really get much more than that. For instance, I've got a degree I'm not using in History with, fittingly enough, a concentration in the history and culture of Mexico. Did this in ANY way prepare me to live in Mexico? Absolutely not. It didn't really even give me that great a grasp on the history or culture even though I walked out of that field of study on a carpet of A's. I learned FAR in the first 6 months of living here in Mexico than I did in a five year course of study. No, college is about sticking with something and finishing what you started. That's what college is really teaching you to do. And there is great value in that! What do you want? A product that someone started off really excited about but didn't finish? Or do you want a working product even though the person who made it maybe didn't love everything about it? Yeah, that's what employers want, too.
