Art behind bars?

Window bars are super common in México. It's not because it's that dangerous here, though they do help with security, but I think a lot of it is that it's traditional and expected. And of course, this would keep people from stealing the cool pots out of your windows too.

Also, see that thick window ledge? The walls here were only about 3 inches thinner.
